If not contenet, then I'd try again a clean install. Also, there should be a setting in BIOS for faster harddrive - worth trying. Another thing to try: Go Control Panel/Adm Tools//Event Viewer/Application and Services Logs/Microsoft/Windows/Diagnostics-Performance and read what boot errors you might have.

Interesting Virus/Trojan From Clean Install
So my questions basically are: is it worth it to buy a laptop which comes with a basic Vista OS, wipe it and do a clean install of XP Pro? I am not worried about voiding a warrantee in this case. Or if it works better, can my XP software be installed as a backwards "upgrade" over Vista Home?

Is a clean install a valid exercise??? I've read it is a great thing to do to improve performance....thanks A clean install is generally only worth it if you've got problems. If it's simply disk fragmentation that's your problem, get a good disk optimizer. I've used Norton's, MacTools Pro, DiskExpress II,

Yep, bullshit that a clean install is going to take 'weeks, if not months' unless you're completely incompetant. Doing a clean install is like having your house .... be doing clean installs with significant hardware changes like the motherboard. If MS adds features that saves me time, then the SW is worth the $$.

Win ME - My Two Cents Worth
Is it worth replacing Windows 95 with 98? I've got a Pentium 233MMX with 80 megs of RAM. You'll undoubtedly get different opinions on this. But if you do choose to get 98, you should note that a clean installation, rather than an upgrade over 95, is most likely to give you stable results.
